Welcome to May!
April was a pretty busy month, we wore purple for our military Children and their families, participated in walks to raise money for Connecticut Children's Medical center as well as participating in the Legion family bowling tournament.
Several Units held fundraisers and gatherings. The Past President's Parley was well attended and our special guest Debra Tiernan from Vermont was impressed with the amount of support that was given and all the monies raised for grants.
How are you letting people know about your events? As we prepare for Memorial Day, make sure you are letting all your members know the plan.
The consolidated report went out, we should all be working on our reports for the end of year. The idea of the consolidated report is to help take the pressure off of the units filling out so many reports.
I am a Past 1st District President and I was honored to attend the 1st District Past Commanders and Presidents night in Windsor Locks. At this gathering, a letter was read from a 100 year old member from Enfield 154. She was the District President in 1974, I believe, and wanted to share her thoughts.
I will have it placed in this newsletter. The one thing I want to point out is, even after all these years, this lady can teach us how to work the mission.
Respectfully,
Jennifer McLeod

Letter referred to in Department President’s Message:
Rose is a member of Unit 154. Although I have never met her, we have spoken several times over
the years. Rose turned 100 years old on January 1 of this year and still lives at home, maintains an
home in Florida and drives. Her voice and mind are as clear as a 30 year old.
She asked me to pass the following message onto you…
“Thank you for this invitation. I am sorry that I am unable to attend due to health problems. Thank
you to each and every member for helping with the programs that are so valuable to help others. My
righthand person, Sophie Pabis was a down to earth person. Please members, stay safe, healthy,
and happy. Thanks again, Rose Pastula, Past President, District 1.”
Rose mentions Sophie Pabis. Sophie turned 100 years old in March 2023. But, sadly passed away a
few months ago. I feel incredibly fortunate to be associated with both of these women. Thank you.
